First and foremost we need to identify common troubles because we can't know where we are going if you don't know where we are.

a. Time Constraints: Busy schedules often make it difficult to prepare nutritious meals. Definitely raising my hand here, time is a fickle thing and from my experience I will say that a good offense is a good defense. Finding quick and easy recipes can alleviate this issue. I absolutely love Pinterest for this reason, its been a huge life saver. I simply created a board for quick and easy recipes and will reference that when I trying to set the week up for success. I may not be able to meal prep the whole week every single week but if I can just get a menu together for the week that is truly half the battle.
b. Picky Eaters: Encouraging children to try new foods can be a struggle. I have a three year old and I hear "I don't like it" before she has even tried it, I completely understand the struggle. Introducing variety through creative meal planning and being the example to eating them and involving them in the cooking process can make a BIG difference. Another pro-tip that my husband and I do, is make sure that we do not sway her one way or another on foods, we simply ask her to try it and of course every child is unique but I'll say that does seem to help.
c. Limited Access to Fresh Produce: Living in areas with limited access to fresh produce can hinder efforts towards a nourishing lifestyle, I am in the midwest so fresh produce is hard to come by. Exploring local farmer's markets, community-supported agriculture (CSA), or even growing your own produce can help overcome this challenge.
Next, Strategies for a Smooth Transition:
a. Meal Planning: Devote time each week to plan meals and create a shopping list. Again, going back to simply just having the menu ready & products purchased. This will ensure you have all the necessary ingredients and minimize the reliance on unhealthy convenience foods.
b. Batch Cooking: If you do have the extra time, I highly recommend preparing larger quantities of meals and freezing individual portions can save time during busy days.
c. Sneak in Nutrients: Enhance the nutritional value of meals by incorporating hidden vegetables, such as adding pureed vegetables to sauces or blending them into smoothies. My favorite is adding spinach to smoothies because you can't even taste it a little bit.
d. Involve the Whole Family: Encourage your family members to participate in meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. Try having your husband and each child select a meal they would like for the week. This promotes a sense of ownership and increases the likelihood of everyone enjoying the meals.
